Reportedly lack of ambition is not one of Yeduguri Sandinti Jaganmohan Reddy’s flaws. Recently when speaking after the completion of his 3,648 km long, 340 day ‘padayatra’ (march on foot) that took him to every corner of Andhra Pradesh, the YSR Congress Party chief who is better known as Jagan Mohan Reddy reportedly told supporters that he wanted to rule the state for 30 years.

Jagan who was speaking in Srikakulam district, was quoted as saying “After he dies, his photo should be in each house beside my father’s photo”. Furthermore his father and Congress leader, the late YS Rajasekhara (YSR) Reddy, had himself covered more than 1,400km during his foot-march, following which the older Reddy defeated Chandrababu Naidu to become chief minister. Meanwhile the 46 year old Jagan is quite literally trying to follow his father’s footsteps.

Even though Jagan had the backing of a majority of Congress MLAs, the party high command was wary of handing him the CM’s chair. Meanwhile in course of the yatra, he met families of those who had died either because of shock or by committing suicide after hearing the news of the death of YSR and the final parting of ways came in November 2010 when N Kiran Kumar Reddy was made the CM. Jagan quit the Congress and gave up his Lok Sabha membership as well.
