Mekapati Rajmohan Reddy is the politician who accompanied with YS Jagan soon after YSR was assassinated in 2009. He left Congress party and joined in YSRCP. Mekapati is taking care of YSRCP party affairs in Nellore district. Jagan too gave lot of importance to Mekapati and gave three tickets to his family. Mekapati Chandrasekhar Reddy (Udayagiri), Mekapati Gowtham Reddy (Aathmakur) and Nellore Parliament segment assigned to Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy.
Mekapati had won Nellore thrice in 2004, 2009 and 2014. In 2014, Mekapati was elected as Nellore MP with less margin of votes over then TDP nominee Aadala Prabhakar Reddy. Now the scene has just reversed. Jagan gave YSRCP ticket to Adala who joined in party two days back and ignored Mekapati. But as usual his brother and son got tickets for Assembly. This causes some frustration among Mekapati followers in Nellore district.
They were in angry mood but maintain restraint without doing any protests and agitations. There is some disturbance happened in Vizag, Prakasam, Krishna and Vizag YSRCP but not in Nellore. As per buzz, YSRCP is in thought that Mekapati followers sure to do some damage as they can at the time polling. Party predicts that Mekapati followers encourage cross-voting in Udayagiri and Aathmakur segments. They vote for FAN for Assembly and not for Parliament in two segments. Knowing this in advance, Aadala met Mekapati and request for his co-operation in elections.
