Accordingly lack of ambition is not one of Yeduguri Sandinti Jaganmohan Reddy’s flaws. When speaking recently after the completion of his 3,648 km long, 340 day ‘padayatra’ (march on foot) that took him to every corner of Andhra Pradesh, the YSR Congress Party chief who is better known as Jagan Mohan Reddy reportedly told supporters that he wanted to rule the state for 30 years.

Jagan said “After he dies, his photo should be in each house beside his father’s photo”. Reportedly his father and Congress leader, the late YS Rajasekhara (YSR) Reddy, had himself covered more than 1,400km during his foot march, following which the older Reddy defeated Chandrababu Naidu to become chief minister. Furthermore Jagan, the leader of Opposition in the Andhra assembly, has been trying to consolidate his support with the 2019 Lok Sabha and assembly elections in mind.

Moreover with Naidu breaking his alliance with the BJP and joining hands with the Congress last year, will Jagan be compelled to partner with the BJP? Hence despite rumors doing the rounds, so far the YSR Congress chief has given no indication of forging any common front with the BJP. Added to the electoral equation in Andhra Pradesh this time around is actor Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena. Accordingly Jagan will have to make up his mind quickly, as a divided political field could mean advantage Naidu.
