Accordingly Pratap C Reddy was born in a small village in the erstwhile Madras Presidency, Prathap Reddy was a cardiologist by training and later he decided to start the first Apollo hospital in 1979, after being moved by the plight a young patient who had died due to the lack of adequate facilities in India. Meanwhile the 150 bed Apollo hospital in Chennai was India’s first corporate hospital. Today, Apollo Hospitals is one of the largest hospital chains in India, and also manages hospitals in countries such as Nigeria, Mauritius and Oman and apparently in Forbes, estimated his net worth to be around $690 million.
Furthermore Pratap Chandra Reddy is an Indian entrepreneur and cardiologist who founded the first corporate chain of hospitals in India, the Apollo Hospitals. Meanwhile India Today ranked him 48th in its 2017 list of India's 50 most powerful people. Furthermore Reddy was awarded the Padma Bushan in 1991 and received the Padma Vibhushan, which is India's second highest civilian award, in 2010. Further in an interview for the Creating Emerging Markets project at the Harvard Business School, Reddy explained how he navigated India's bureaucracy to bring healthcare to the country.
Reportedly Dr.Reddy has been successful in attracting the cream of Indian medical doctors from developed economies like the U.S and U.K. For his efforts Apollo Hospital is recognized as one of the finest in the world-at par with the hospitals in the First World countries. Moreover Dr.Reddy has also been pro-active in modifying government regulations to suit current medical trends and he helped to ease import restrictions and made the government take a more liberal view on organ transplants among others.
Hence the Apollo Group opened its first clinic in Dubai in 1999. He also has plans for SAARC countries and perhaps he has plans for opening secondary health centers in India. Moreover his new projects include ‘Med-varsity’-a virtual medical university providing total access to medical experts and ‘MEDNET’-a hospital systems management package.
