Atal Bihari Vajpayee had said that Kashmir conflict will be resolved considering humanity, secular culture of Kashmir and democracy. Vajpayee had realized that after years of fight Kashmiris wanted peace. After his Kashmir policy, the number of youth resorting to violence reduced and terrorist attacks also declined.
Vajpayee helped bridge the disconnect between Kashmiris and New Delhi. The army and Central government tried to channelize young Kashmiris, for example, sending students to different states for good economic and educational opportunities. New Delhi's Kashmir policy was affected by India-Pakistan relations and after the tenure of UPA-II, Kashmiris again were troubled which is the reason behind them not accepting Narendra Modi government.
Modi's military-controlled Kashmir policy increased Kashmir based militancy and usage of pellet guns against protestors took many Kashmiris to the violent route. Media supported Modi's Kashmir policy representing civilian Kashmiris as violence inciting people and not as victims. Because of this isolation of Kashmiris and calling them, stone-pelters became common and Kashmiris were attacked wherever they went. Indians must remember that when saying Kashmir is ours, must imply means Kashmiris are also ours.
