He was born from Durgapur (WB), Sudip Dutta is the founder of a Rs 1,685 crore company Ess Dee Aluminum Pvt Ltd that counts some of the biggest fast moving consumer goods like Nestle, GlaxoSmithKline, Sun Pharmaceuticals Ltd as its clients. But who could have thought that a rich businessman like him could be just a 12th pass student and not even a graduate?
Sudip headed to Mumbai when the responsibility of seven family members crashed upon his shoulders after the demise of his father and then his elder brother and his father was an army man who died during the Bangladesh liberation war of 1971. Reportedly Sudip wanted to become an engineer, but he chose to sacrifice his dream to support his family. Furthermore Sudip was quick to adapt and understand the needs of the pharma companies and the rise of the packaging industry and hence he aimed to convert his mid-cap company to a large cap company.
Further the company was overshadowed by giants like India foils, Jindal Ltd. etc. For Sudip, next step was to get a place in that league. Sudip was told by many professionals from the industry that he was making a huge mistake by taking over India foils, but, not only was he able to surpass a global giant like Vedanta permanently, Sudip was able to take up his company Ess Dee to the top most position in the industry. Apparently although the company did not gain success overnight, its wide range of technologically advanced packaging solutions raised the bar of the company in the industry, making him the owner of an empire worth Rs 1,685 crore.
