Chennai sources stated that close on the heels of the DMK, which opposed any action against the three AIADMK legislators for supporting AMMK leader T. T. V. Dhinakaran; and warned of moving a no-confidence motion against the AIADMK government, MDMK chief Vaiko claimed the AIADMK's move for action against the dissident MLAs was “only to protect” the Edappadi Palaniswami government.

Meanwhile the attempt to take action against the party lawmakers was “only to protect” the Edappadi K. Palaniswami government as it will ‘lose’ majority after the outcome of by-polls to 22 Assembly seats, Vaiko claimed.

Moreover Vaiko said in a statement here that the results for both the 38 Lok Sabha seats and by-elections to 22 Assembly segments in the State on May 23, will go against the ruling BJP at the Centre and the AIADMK in Tamilnadu. He maintained “Though there is Constitutional provision to take action against them under the anti-defection law, the Whip had submitted the said complaint with the Speaker only to protect the Palaniswami government”.
