Reportedly with minutes to go before the second round of talks between the striking employees of the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), the State Labour Department and the management of CMRL begins, the company has suspended three employees for allegedly sabotaging the signaling system of the train network on April 29.

Apparently CMRL conveyed the decision to suspend the employees on a Facebook post on Wednesday. The post read “It has been found that the below mentioned three Non Executive Staffs who were controlling the entire train movement of both Corridor 1 & 2 had deserted the work place on 29-04-2019 and halted the trains by giving false critical command in the signaling system to disturb/hamper the Metro train services intentionally”.

Furthermore based on this, the company has placed two traffic controllers R Manokaran and K Prem Kumar and a depot controller Cynthia Roshan Samson on suspension. Moreover a part of Chennai Metro Railway’s services was halted on Monday due to ‘technical glitches’ at the same time as around 250 employees were on a sit-in strike inside the CMRL’s office in Koyambedu, Chennai. Apparently the employees have been on a strike since Monday against the company’s decision to terminate the services of eight employees for, among many things, forming a union.
