Accordingly the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has declared yellow alert in Idukki district of Kerala on May 6 and May 7. Meanwhile the region will receive isolated heavy rainfall in various parts of the district and Idukki is likely to receive rainfall measuring 64.5mm to 115.5mm on these days.

Furthermore various parts of Kerala will also receive light to moderate rainfall till Tuesday. IMD has also declared thunderstorm warning at isolated places in the state. IMD said “Thunderstorm and lightning accompanied with gusty wind of 40 to 50 kilometer per hour at isolated places is very likely over Kerala at May 6 and 7”. Apparently the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has also put out alert for the people in Idukki district and those who plan to travel through the district on these days.



KSDMA states “The disaster management body has also put out a set of guidelines to be followed by people in the district in the wake of the yellow alert”. Moreover it had instructed not to park vehicles near narrow water channels that run across the roads in hilly areas as there are chances that the water may gush through during mudslides.
