A Bengaluru court has found that Asianet News Network and Kannad anews channel Suvarna news is liable for defaming Actress cum Politician Divya Spandana. The news channels have telecasted news stories linking her to IPL Spot-Fixing scam in the year 2013.
The court ordered the news channels to pay damages worth Rs.50 Lakhs to the actor. The court said, "On perusal of the records, it is clear that plaintiff has a blemishless record and known as a good actress in the Kannada film industry and she has also worked as a Member of Parliament."
For those who don't know, Divya was the brand ambassador of Royal Challengers Bangalore team for the first five seasons of Indian Premiere League. Divya's legal advisor Pramod Nair said Divya was not involved in IPL 2013 as she was campaigning for Karnataka Assembly elections that year.
