If the supreme court writ runs  noe  a voter can record his reject vote against a candidate in elections .After 60 years independence the Indian democracy has become mature enough to reject a candidate with a negative vote.  If a candidate gets  50 % and more negative votes the election commission can hold fresh elections and cancel his election .

Following a petition by the PUCL the Supreme Court has directed the Election Commission to provide a button on voting machines to allow voters to reject all candidates contesting an election in a constituency.  Election commission sources said voters in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram - where Assembly elections are due in November - will have the right to reject option.

Right now, if a voter goes to a polling booth and does not want to vote for any candidate, he can sign a register and come out. That violates the right of secret ballot  says activists led by Anna Hazare .  The UPA government has opposed the proposal. The BJP had asked for a detailed debate. The Left wants more  clarity.
