Telugu Desam Party was reduced to just 23 seats in the 175 seats Assembly of Andhra Pradesh, its worst—ever tally in the history. With age not in favor of Chandrababu Naidu and lokesh proving to be unfit to lead the party, there are doubts all over about the party's chances for a comeback.
Though most of the pre-poll and exit results indicated a clear win for YSRCP the unprecedented sweep was something no one was able to capture. Former Chief Secretary during Chandrababu's tenure, IYR krishna Rao said that it is not a big surprise and the result could have been even worse if not for pawan Kalyan's Janasena.
"Had not Jana Sena cut into anti-establishment votes and facilitated a win for Telugu Desam in about 10 constituencies, TDP would have been confined to less than 15 seats. It would not even have got the seats needed (10% of the Total Seats Needed) for the Opposition Party Status," IYR krishna Rao opined. Janasena just managed one seat in this election.
