Chennai sources stated that Former Tamil Nadu minister and current secretary of the DMK’s Youth Wing, Mr. Vellakoil M P Saminathan is understood to have agreed to relinquish his key party post in favor of party president M K Stalin’s film star son, Udaynidhi Stalin, amid various DMK units pushing for a key post for the latter. Meanwhile sources in the DMK said on Monday that a decision on this issue would, however, be taken after Mr. M.K. Stalin, who is presently out of the country, returned home in a few days, in consultation with party seniors.
Furthermore Mr. Saminathan is already said to have given his resignation letter from the party post to the DMK headquarters. Meanwhile Mr. Stalin held on to the party’s youth wing leadership for long years, which he much prized, after taking over as DMK president, many in the party felt that the young wing leadership be entrusted to Udayanidhi as he is already a popular film actor and has been actively participating in party meetings and functions.
Moreover, Udayanidhi Stalin had toured extensively and campaigned for the party during the recent elections to the Lok Sabha and the 22 Assembly bye-elections. Reportedly he was seen to be gradually groomed to take over the youth wing leadership as a logical corollary to his father M K Stalin heading the DMK now and several DMK district units and other wings of the party have of late been passing resolutions to nominate Udaynidhi Stalin to lead the party’s youth wing, given his popularity, energy and zeal.
