Former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's Capital Greed may have costed the lives of 11 farmers. An RTI query revealed that eleven farmers of Amaravati have committed suicides in the past two years. And it reveals how farmers were left neglected in and around an area touted to be developed as a World-Class Capital.

Five farmers ended lives in Amaravati mandal, three in Thulluru mandal and three in Pedakurapadu mandal. Of the 11 cases, nine farmers consumed pesticide, while two hanged themselves. Six of the 11 farmers are Dalits, belonging to Mala and Madiga communities. The previous government ensured that this did not come into the light.

The newly elected government announced Rs 12,500 input subsidy under the Rythu Bharosa scheme and nine-hour power supply during daytime and seed supply at the right time. It has to be seen if these moves will be sufficient to address the Agrarian distress in the Capital Region and the state as a whole.
