Reportedly right after winning the elections, YSRCP government had ordered for change of Anna Canteen's label. As per the latest update the government has stopped paying salaries for the canteen workers. Furthermore in Guntur, Anna canteen workers staged a protest demanding the government to pay salaries which are unpaid for the last four months. Furthermore there are nearly 20,000 workers in the district and they are really worried about the future now. There is also a rumor that the government is soon planning to shut down the entire canteen in the district.
Meanwhile in the protest one of the canteen worker appealed to the government said it should clarify its stand on running Anna canteens. A worker said "Even when we are sick, we worked very hard day and night for the canteen. For the four months, we did not get salaries and we have no other option rather than to protest. Hope the government promptly reacts and addresses our issue at the earliest”.
Moreover an individual who runs the canteen said we are hearing from government sources that canteen may stop functioning from August 1st but an official announcement is awaited. This canteen feeds the poor and needy but they will have to struggle now.
