Making a point about its stance on reviewing the Power PPAs, YSR Congress Government says that the previous TDP regime had wasted public money by purchasing power in excess even when the demand was not there. The TDP government because of purchasing excess electricity has put a total burden of Rs 5,497 crore that has cost the state exchequer.

According to AP Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC), the surplus was 642 million kwh in 2015-16, 10,473 kwh in 2016-17, 12,014 million kwh in 2017-18 and 7,629 in 2018-19. But still, the previous government continued to buy Power at exorbitant prices bringing huge losses to the State Exchequer. The State Government suspects massive corruption in these purchases and is looking into it.

Owing to this, the government has called for all the Power Companies to review the terms of the Agreements. In case, they refuse the government announced that it will cancel the PPAs that are signed. The Power Companies have gone to Andhra Pradesh High Court and brought a temporary stay on the G.O calling for the review of the PPAs.
