Around 18 people were missing due to a flood which washed away around 20 homes in Uttarkashi district. The Tons river has been flowing above the danger level due to the incessant rainfall for the past few days. The water even entered the local market and the local administration issued an alert.

Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat directed the Uttarkashi District Magistrate and Disaster Management Secretary to carry out rescue and evacuation operations. According to ANI agency, people are given relief materials and already the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) have begun their operations. But, the incessant rains have made it more tough for them to continue the rescue operations.

This also resulted in traffic and cripple transportation. The Gangotri highway is now closed due to landslides. People are left stranded due to cloudbursts and floods. The Weather department has predicted heavy rainfall for the next three days. It should be noted that the same place was struck with heavy floods in 2013. Stay tuned for more updates.
