If reports are to be believed, then forget Vizag, Vijayawada and Kurnool, one small sleepy town in Guntur district may be declared as the capital. There seems to be some intense lobbying doing the rounds in Delhi. If this happens then a major turnaround of events is going to happen.
Sources say that this town is Macherla and it is gaining prominence. When one leaves Hyderabad over Sagar highway, it is only at a distance of 150 kms and through outer ring road from Macherla, the Shamshabad International Airport can be reached within 130 kilometres.
There is abundant government land available here and there is ample water supply in this town since it lies close to Nagarjuna Sagar dam. It is also close to Vijayawada city and at the same time it is located in the backward Palnadu region of Guntur-Prakasam belt.
It is heard that the officials are mulling over the possibility that this can also be developed once the capital starts developing! Moreover it is located equidistant from Rayalaseema and important places in Coastal Andhra! We have to see how this one will materialize.
