The Boat Accident in godavari river earlier this week is a major tragedy in the new government. So far, the Government has managed to recover 34 dead bodies and the bodies of 17 others are yet to be recovered. The Boat Royal Vasishta is owned by a person called Kodigudla Venkata Ramana. He is reportedly an active worker of Janasena Party in his native Vishakapatnam and East Godavari where he is residing.
He also has several cases on him filed in between 2009 and 2017 including land grabbing and cheating. Some of the cases are still in the courts. He used to be very close to the local leaders in the TDP Government and since then, running the boats without permission. Even before he is caught by the new government, the damage has happened.
In July 2018, a boat carrying 40 passengers had also capsized in the Godavari. Even then, things did not change. Only those wearing the life jackets were saved in this accident and the boat organizers gave the life jackets only to some of the passengers. The government stalled all the boats into the Godavari until the safety measures are taken.
