hyderabad: The Information technology Investment Region (ITIR) project, which IT minister KT Rama Rao said has been shelved by central government, generated a lot of heat in assembly on Saturday with Congress floor leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka asserting that TRS government did not pursue the project “intentionally.”

Stating that Telangana was born as a state for the sake of jobs, Vikramarka said UPA government-sanctioned ITIR project could have created 70 lakh direct and indirect jobs and attracted Rs 50,000 crore investments. “It is not only jobs and investments, but the project would have boosted tax revenues up to Rs 30,170 crore,” he said. “It could have resulted in revving up IT revenues to Rs 2.19 lakh crore, IT exports to Rs 2.35 lakh crore, six-laning of highways, upgradation of 11 radial roads, development of electrical sub-stations and extension of MMTS rail, in addition to Rs 2,189 crore central funding,” the senior MLA said.

The minister said what Vikramarka was claiming are only projections spread over next 20 years if ITIR was supported by central government. “But neither the UPA nor NDA governments had given us a single paisa. The IT minister of NDA government during his visit to the city said they will not implement ITIR as it was a UPA government project.

The present government shelved the ITIR policy itself,” ktr said. Stating that ITIR was planned to be established in 49,913 acres , he said the state government provided a detailed budgetary support requisition and DPR for funds and aggressively pursued various Union ministries, but not a paisa was released. Seeking to advise Vikramarka to correct the statistics on ITIR, the minister pointed out that Bengaluru was also granted ITIR. “There was a Congress government for five years but not a brick was laid for ITIR there. Stop blaming our government,” he said.
