hyderabad: A day after the death of 26-year-old housewife K mounika when plaster of Ameerpet Metro Station peeled off and fell on her and triggered an uproar, hyderabad police on Monday booked operator L&T Metro Rail (hyderabad) Limited for alleged negligence.

SR Nagar police late on Sunday night registered a first information report (FIR) based on the complaint lodged by Mounika’s husband K Harikanth Reddy, a software engineer with TCS, under Section 174 (suspicious death) of the CrPC. On Monday, police altered the case and added Section 304-A (Negligence causing death) of the IPC.

TimesView Police should carry out a thorough probe into the accident and find out the people responsible for the shoddy work and take appropriate action . The inspection of all major Metro stations should be carried out at the earliest to allay fears, if any, among commuters about the possibility of any similar accident occurring again. “Based on prima facie information, a case is registered against L&T under Section 304-A of the IPC. During the course of investigation, we need to find out who is accountable for the peeling off of plaster and its maintenance,’’ SR Nagar subinspector Ch Naresh told NEWS.
