Telangana government is seriously mulling over the idea of taking control of liquor business in state, however excise officials thinks it would be extremely difficult for state to run the business. Government of Telangana is considering to take over the liquor business in state, if this happens then liquor would be sold in state run shops, licenses to private dealers will be abolished.

According to sources, state CM had detailed discussion on this issue with his Andhra Pradesh counterpart in recently held meeting. Government thinks by running the liquor business, they will earn extra revenue and, also increase the price of liquor.

Government extended the license of current dealers by a month, which was supposed to end this month, if this idea is implemented then Telangana would end up following the bandwagon of kerala,Tamil nadu, and Andhra Pradesh. The Total revenue earned by state from liquor is around 1400 crores, additional 800 crores were earned this financial-year due to increase in consumption.

Liquor was banned by NT Rama rao in united Andhra Pradesh in 1995, although the prohibition was lifted by n. chandrababu naidu in 1997, due to severe deficiency in revenue.
