Bathukamma is floral festival celebrated by the women of Telangana, every year it is celebrated with grand fervour and enthusiasm, this festival is celebrated during nine days of Durga navratri, it usually comes every year in month of September or October. Telangana is bustling with songs of bathukamma everywhere, the festival of flowers is celebrated with 
grand fervour and joy. As per hindu calendar, it falls on Bhadrapada Amavasya also known as Mahalaya Amavasya. It starts on Mahalaya Amavasya and culminates on Pedda Bathukamma festival on Durga Ashtami. 

 Bathukamma represents the culture of Telangana state, meaning of bathukamma is ‘Mother goddess come alive’. Government of Telangana has declared Bathukamma festival as Telangana state festival. First bathukamma festival was celebrated in grand scale after bifurcation, CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao released 10 crores for festivities, even government offices were directed to celebrate the festival in the office premises.  

  Bathukamm being a festival of women, they dressed up in traditional attire on this day, women wearing saris, and jewelry and teenage girls wearing half saris along with jewelry. As this festival is of flowers basically, flowers like celosia, senna, marigold, and Indian lotus along with many traditional leaves are been decorated with cow dung.     Bathukamma reflects the culture and traditions of Telangana, the festival brings joy and jubilation among the people, song, and dance is also an integral part of this beautiful festival.
