There is a temple of Mahatma Gandhi in Odisha's Sambhalpur district, October 2 being the birth anniversary of Gandhi, people thronged the temple on this occasion.Bhatra  a small place located in sambhalpur district of Odisha has a temple dedicated to father of the nation. People flocked the temple on Wednesday, being the 150th birth anniversary of mahatma Gandhi. 

Floral tributes were offered to bronze idol of Gandhi, devotional songs were sung on the occasion.Temple built in the year 1974 by former MLA Abhimanyu Kumar, people gather in the temple premises daily in the morning and evening to pray, with recitation of Bhagwat Geetha.Kumar, an ardent follower of Gandhi’s teachings was inspired by his speech delivered in sambhalpur in 1932.

Foundation of temple was laid in 1971. It took 3 years to complete the construction of temple. Radhakanta bag, priest of temple says, people from all walk of life visits the temple. A visitor said that he visits the temple on every Gandhi jayanthi and Shahid diwas (January 30). Another visitor termed Gandhi as incarnation of God, hence he should be worshiped.
