Huzurnagar bypolls contest is mainly between TRS and Congress, but BJP is hoping to get at least 20% of vote share to claim main opposition in the state. Though Huzurnagar is Congress bastion since years as the party has fielded Padmavati Reddy.

The saffron party has made a steady progress in the state of Telangana, the party is now claiming to be the main opposition after winning 4 Lok Sabha seats in the recent elections. If BJP manages to secure 20% of vote share in bypolls it would stake its claim of being main opposition replacing Congress.

Interestingly BJP only got 1500 votes in 2018 Huzurnagar assembly elections, which is just mere 7% of total, TRS won 88 seats, while Congress along with its allies including TDP won 19 seats, BJP won just 1 seat though. The bypolls is indeed a litmus test for BJP as Huzurnagar is Congress stronghold, Congress retained the seat since 2009, Uttam Kumar Reddy won the seat consecutively for three times.

While TRS would rely heavily on its landslide victory in 2018 assembly elections, they would definitely go as favourites for the seat, TDP on other hand is trying to save its sinking ship in Telangana by contesting the bypolls.
