If reports are to be believed then the Seemandhra lobby is reportedly planning to deal a severe blow to the Congress leadership by indirectly fielding Samaikhyandhra candidates for Rajya Sabha elections due in March. Sources say that this lobby is planning to field two independent candidates - Vundavalli Arun Kumar, Congress LS member from Rajahmundry, and APNGO leader P Ashok Babu as champions of united Andhra Pradesh and demonstrate their strength among the Seemandhra legislators. Congress legislators from Seemandhra are expected to defy party whip and vote for these candidates. The Rajya Sabha elections will be held for filling five vacancies due to retirement of Congress members Nandi Yellaiah, M A Khan (Telangana), KVP Ramachandra Rao, T Subbirami Reddy and T Ratnabai (Seemandhra). As per the total strength in the present assembly Congress is expected to win three and TDP two if the elections are held before the bifurcation of the state. Congress is expected to face embarrassment in the Seemandhra region as the party is considered as the villain behind the division and cannot expect any votes from its own MLAs.
