In a new development to the T-resolution issue, sources say that chief minister Kiran Reddy will most likely seek a four to six week extension for the Andhra Pradesh assembly for considering the AP Reorganization Bill which has been sent to the assembly for consideration. Sources say that this may be sent to President after after Sankranti quoting an example of Uttar Pradesh, where the then chief minister had sought extra time which was granted. Sources say that if Mukherjee grants the extension, Kiran will wait till the proposal is considered by the assembly failing which he will quit the Congress party and join the front launched by Lagadapati Rajagopal. After the assembly session, Kiran has already stated that he will also convene a two-day meeting of Congress legislators from Seemandhra to deliberate the future course of action. This is seen as an appeal to the legislators to act according to their ‘conscience’ and join the new party just like Indira Gandhi who had broken the Congress party in November 1969 to eliminate the syndicate of old leaders who were in charge. When this syndicate had put up Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy as the official Congress candidate for the Presidential polls, Indira silently encouraged her nominee V V Giri to file papers as an independent. Then she appealed to the Congress MPs and MLAs to vote as per their ‘conscience.’ This broke Congress and the breakaway group led by Indira got power!
