Following the attack on CRPF search party by the Maoists in neighboring Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh Police have decided to deploy their elite strike force Grey Hounds in the bordering areas of the state particularly the Andhra Orissa, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Maharashtra area. The state is facing a three layered election programme from 30 March to May 7 covering from Mandal to Parliamentary segments. Explaining the need for the deployment, DGP B Prasada Rao  says  there could be efforts by the Maoists to stop the process of elections, in desperation. We will stop the Maoist Action teams," he said adding that so far the police have not found any movement of Dalams, but are worried that Maoists could also target politicians and movement of ballot boxes or EVMs.  "Police will use helicopters stationed at Visakhapatnam, Bhadrachalam and Khammam for movement of  ballot boxes from Maoist areas to the headquarters  In addition the AP Police also sought for 20 percent additional Paramilitary forces to the state for the smooth running of the elections. The police have identified 26135 out of the 68678 polling stations in the state as critical and 14 213 clusters also troublesome. In all 1038 checkposts will be erected and 942 Flying squads will be deployed on election duty.
