The YSR Congress seems to be strong contender in the upcoming Assembly election for Anantapur Assembly. While the YSRC has a sitting MLA, who has won twice in a row now - in the general elections of 2009 and in by-election after he resigned to support Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy and contested on an YSRC ticket - the TDP which is the other major contending party in the fray has been unsuccessful since the last three elections. In the past three elections, TDP have ticket to a new candidate every time, TDP has been facing the problem of selecting the correct competitor for the Anantapur Assembly segment so as to bring down the vote percentage as a whole. Though the top contenders for the TDP ticket remain to be Mahalakshmi Srinivas and Prabhakar Chowdary - both have lost an election to the Anantapur Assembly seat contesting on a TDP ticket. However, Muslims were loyal voters to Congress that seemed transferred to the YSRC during the recent by-elections.  The Congress, which could not field contestants in this area in its best way has made to prove that it doesn’t stand as a strong contender. According to sources, the Congress has no way to win in the constituency. However, the contestant for Congress is emerging to be the INTUC district president K.V. Ramana who has a considerable political background since his days in Left parties.
