Renuka Chowdary, the Rajya Sabha member expressed her anger after the Congress party ignored her candidature from Khammam Lok Sabha seat. The Congress has allotted Khammam to CPI as part of pre-poll alliance.
The former Union minister wanted to contest from Khammam as she represented the seat in 1999 and 2004, but now the CPI state secretary K Narayana will be the alliance candidate from the constituency, the party said. K Narayana is contesting for the first time in the elections. Renuka Chowdary has always been sure to get the Khammam Lok Sabha ticket, but this decision shocked her.
While coming down heavily on the Congress high command, Renuka Chowdary charged her party of ignoring women when it comes to candidate selection in Telangana. "In public, everyone talks big about empowering women. But when it comes to walk the talk they go back on their words," she rued. Meanwhile, the Congress delayed its second list which was expected to be released on Sunday.
