The AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi told the people against voting for regional parties such as the TRS as such a choice would amount to limiting their aspirations. Mr. Rahul Gandhi wanted the people to look at issues with national perspective without “wasting your energy on smaller things”. “Supporting smaller parties will mean confining your dreams and aspirations. People should aspire for bigger things like creating ‘brand Telangana’ once the new State comes into existence on June 2,” he said. He was addressing a public meeting as part of his election campaign in Telangana region. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ponnala Lakshmaiah, working president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Mahabubnagar Lok Sabha candidate S. Jaipal Reddy and Congress’ nominees from across the district were present. Mr. Rahul Gandhi launched a broadside at the TRS leadership for its hunger for power without any plans for the development of the poorest of the poor. TRS president K. Chandrsekhar Rao was, no doubt making several promises, but he was known to forget his assurances. He quoted KCR promise of merging his party with the Congress as also the one for making a dalit the Chief Minister of Telangana. “KCR forgot both. He will not fulfil the promises he is showering on the people with an eye on coming to power,” he said. “The TDP was opposed to Telangana while the BJP tried to create as many hurdles as possible in the Rajya Sabha to stall passage of the Bill,” he said.
