AP High Court acquitted all 56 accused in the sensational T.sunder massacre case in the year of 1991. The court while doing so set aside the judgment of Guntur trial court which sentenced 21 people to life imprisonment and 35 people to one year life imprisonment. During the T.Sunder massacre 8 dalits were killed and several injured when upper caste people from Telega, Reddy and others indulged in attacks in Tsunder, Guntur. The trial court in its 2007 judgment had acquitted 115 others accused citing lack of evidence. And with the HC's pronouncement, all the accused have been acquitted. HC bench comprising of Justices L Narasimha Reddy and M S K Jaiswal, said "Almost every witness examined by the prosecution, hailing from the village pleaded that he is a Hindu - Mala or Madiga. The defence cross examined the witnesses at length to prove that they have been converted to Christianity. Since we are taking the view that the very criminal acts attributed to the accused are not proved, the issue relating to the social status of the accused pales into insignificance". The bench said victims' families may prefer appeals too
