The Sivaramakrishnan Committee which has been constituted by the Centre to identify suitable location for setting up the new capital for the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh has visited the state for the first time today. Sources say that the committee is expected to undertake extensive tours of various cities of Seemandhra region such as Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur and Rajahmundry in the initial phase. In the second phase, it is expected to visit Ongole, Tirupati and Kurnool and it is being said that committee has also recommended giving IAS officers the option of choosing the state which they would prefer to work for. While one Krishna committee looked into bifurcation of AP which was discarded without any discussions it has to be seen now whether the recommendations would be followed or is it only an eyewash so that political compulsions will come into play while choosing a new capital.
