For whisky and liquor lovers of Seemandhra, getting a glass of their favorite drink after division may prove to be heavy on the pocket. Sources say that a mismatch in the production capacity and also the demand of liquor across the new state border are the main reasons. This is expected to result in an increase in costs because of additional levies, which in turn will be affecting the production in Telangana, that accounts for majority of the liquor production in state. Telangana reportedly produces 62 per cent of the Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) but only accounts for 40 per cent of sales whereas Seemandhra accounts close to 60 per cent of the consumption while the production capacities is only 38 per cent. Telangana also produces nearly five times the amount of beer which Andhra region produces. Now sources say that the levy of import and export duty coupled with central sales tax (CST) on liquor transported from Telangana to Andhra would be shooting up the costs by as much as 11 per cent.
