After it’s worst ever performance right from its inception, the Congress party is now struggling to trying to even get status of the main opposition party in India’s Lok Sabha. The party was able to win only 44 seats all over India. In order to get the status of the main opposition party, Congress should be able to get 10 per cent of the 545 seats, i.e 54-55 seats on its own. In a big boost for the Modi-led BJP government there may be no formal opposition. This is since Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan has reportedly taken a decision of not giving any status as opposition leader. In this backdrop sources say that senior Congress leaders are reportedly pressurizing YSRCP chief Jagan to merge his party with the Congress which has 8 MP’s. Jagan reportedly insisted that Congress should make a public statement declaring that all the disproportionate assets cases against him were baseless while Congress reportedly promised support only for tackling the cases!
