Our readers are aware that Telangana Government has started an exercise of recovering the encroached government lands. In a land survey conducted in this operation, it is revealed that 17,513 acres of government land worth Rs three lakh crore in Ranga Reddy district was illegally encroached by individuals or institutions mainly belonging to Seema Andhra region. It is said that a Congress Minister who held an important portfolio in the previous government is a major hand in this fiasco. Several revenue officers of the region have aided the encroachers for bribes and they are all transferred before taking up this operation. As per the survey, the total government-owned land in RR district stands at 5.53 lakh acre. Most of the encroached land is located in Qutubullapur, Uppal, Malkajgiri, Medchal, Serilingampally, Saroornagar, Hayathnagar, Shamirpet, Moinabad and Balanagar. There are two major concerns in the exercise of Telangana government trying to repossess the lands. Firstly, if Telangana government starts investigating into the encroached government lands and initiates steps to re-possess them, the encroachers might give it a regional colour and accuse the government of targeting Seemandhra people in the common capital area. And the second concern is that land grabbers with the backing of Telangana politicians including ruling party members might try to claim ownership of the properties owned by the Seemandhra population. So,Telangana government is planning to prepare a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to handle such complaints in the vigilance of the governor.
