Election commission issued notification for the election of the Chairmen for Municipalities and Corporations in the state. TDP would capture 80% local bodies both in Municipalities and Corporations. Party would get 74 out of 92 Municipalities and 11 out of 13 Zilla Parishad Chairmanships. YSRCP comes in second with 15 Municipalities and Two ZPs.
TDP won 5 Corporations Rajahmundry, Eluru, Vijayawada, Chittoor and Ananthapur Corporations where YSRCP won Kadapa and Nellore Corporations. Hung exists in Bobbili, Athmakur and Chirala Municipalities. Ex-officio votes (MLA and MP) will decide these hung municipalities. TDP eyed on Kurnool and Prakasam ZPs. Some of the YSRCP ZPTCs showed their interest to join in TDP. YSRCP has managed to win just two ZPs (Kadapa and Nellore).
TDP will finalize it’s Chairman and Deputy Chairman by the end of Tuesday. This is the best performance of TDP in local body elections since it’s inception. Party leaders and cadre happy to regain hold in local bodies. Congress has nowhere exists in Andhra Pradesh. In some places party fails to field its candidates even for ward members.
