The Union ministry of commerce and industry has reportedly approved the IT giant Wipro Ltd’s plans for setting up a special economic zone (SEZ) in the coastal city of Visakhapatnam. This has taken the state of Andhra Pradesh many steps ahead in infrastructure development. Wipro plans to start works on the SEZ over three acres given to it near Resapuvanipalem close to its existing facility in the heart of Vishakapatnam. Sources say that Wipro has promised providing employment to close to 6,400 people at this SEZ. The state government sources reportedly view this approval as a shot in the arm for the TDP led Andhra Pradesh government, which is planning to turn Vizag as an IT and electronics hub after AP bifurcation. The development comes after the recent meeting of Wipro chairman Azim Premji with chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu in Hyderabad during July. In case if AP can attract other big players in coming few months, then Vizag’s development looks unstoppable!
