Lawlessness erupted in Tamil Nadu following the Special Court convicting the state Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa in disproportionate assets case. High alert was issued in Chennai as well as Bangalore where the trial is going on. AIADMK Party workers have come on roads burning effigies of DMK Chief Karunanidhi. Some of them even pelted stones and tried to attack DMK leaders houses. On the other side, the state government is trying to indulge in face saving measures. There is no power in several places of Tamil Nadu since this afternoon. Except Jaya TV owned by the Chief Minister herself, all the News channels transmission is stopped. All the bus services are cancelled for today and all the shops including the Medical stores were closed. There is a severe tension in the borders of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. About 1,25,000 Police officials are deployed to maintain the law and order of the state. The Police department is worrying of situation going out of hands once Jayalalitha is taken in to Police custody. On the other side, Central government is keenly observing the situations in the state and will send Central forces to the state if necessary. A source in the Union Home Ministry ruled out the option of President's rule unless things totally go out of hands in the state. The Chief Minister is expected to step down from the position and install some one of her loyalists in the place. Former Chief Secretary Sheela Balakrishnan or Current Finance Minister Paneer Selvan are the front runners for the post.
