The ruling TDP government is going ahead aggressively to vet the names of ineligible beneficiaries of pension in the state of Andhra Pradesh. This comes at a time when it has hiked the amount from Rs. 200 to Rs. 1000.
Given the high budget involved running into hundreds of crores each month, the party is working hard through their own ruling government to make sure that only those deserving get help. This is a good and much needed move that will save them some burden.
As part of this, during the Janmabhoomi programme going on currently, iconic lady who is currently in her 80s, Dubagunta Rosamma was taken off the list as her Aadhar card mistakenly showed her as owning 5 acres of land. However, the fact is she doesn’t have any, while her sons are daily wage laborers.
Rosamma was famous as the one who started the revolution in early 90s against liquor, which was destroying the livelihood of poor people and affecting their families. Her fight was the main reason that motivated NTR to take up liquor abolition after coming to ruling in 1994.
