Andhra Pradesh Government has planned to utilize its 1000 KMs coastal belt to generate more revenue. Having such a long coast is unique and added advantage to the state. AP Government has proposed to construct 14 as many ports throughout the coastal belt. Government of India agreed to grant 1500 crores for prestigious Inland Water Transport (IWT) project in AP as per the request of Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu. This will accelerate tourism in a cheap and fuel efficient environment friendly transportation mode. Government of India will be called for Tenders in December’14 and work to start in February’15. Proposed project developed water ways along side of southeast coast of India from Kakinada to Pondicherry by using the canals of Krishna and Godavari rivers. Head office of this project will be located in Vijayawada. Government of India has proposed to develop 10 water ways of AP. Government of India has recognized this project as National Waterways-4. The first phase of NW-4 will be developed between Rajahmundry and Bhadrachalam (171 kms) in Godavari river. CBN has influenced Central Government moved the file in months getting the clearances for the project. CBN also used to rejuvenate Buckingham canal to promote tourism.
