Vizag is expected to soon get the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Fab Labs, which would be nothing short of huge fillip to the electronic manufacturing sector, considered a key priority sector of the state government.
Fab Labs is designated as the educational outreach component of MIT’s Center for Bits and Atoms (CBA). Fab Labs is also a technical prototyping platform for innovation and invention offering stimulus for local entrepreneurship.
The Vizag Fab Labs will reportedly be housed at the IT incubation centre on the IT hills in Rushikonda and it would be only one among the three in South India while the remaining two would be coming up in Kerala.
The AP Electronics Policy envisages setting up of 20 electronic manufacturing clusters in 13 districts, but till now only few semi-conductor and electronics manufacturing firms have shown interest in setting up units in AP, but now this is expected to change!
