Petrol pump owners in the state of Telangana state are reportedly planning to go on a strike against the state government’s decision to impose Rs 2 VAT on fuel for each litre while the government is also reportedly contemplating to impose an additional VAT. This will happen if there is a further drop in fuel prices. The commercial taxes department has reportedly sent a proposal to the government which has since been referred to Chief Minister KCR for approval. The petrol pump owners are now reportedly getting concerned that their businesses would be affected as they would be selling fuel for an amount of Rs 2 extra per litre in Telangana State compared to the neighbouring states. With the Andhra Pradesh government not yet talking about additional VAT, pump owners in TS are of the fear that motorists crossing state borders would prefer to refill in AP than TS. This fear will very well become true if the TS government imposes additional VAT.
