AICC gave green signal for Congress to contest in Tirupathy bi-election. Congress leaders met secretly in Tirupathy and discussed on progress of the party in Tirupathy if party contests in the election. They discussed on the name of the candidate who will contest in the election. Reportedly, Congress divided into two groups in selection of the candidate. Some of the leaders referred former Tirupathy MP Chinta Mohan name as Congress candidate for the bi-election. Other leaders suggested another name as Congress nominee for the election. Two groups made their arguments that caused confusion in the meeting. Chinta Mohan said that he is not willing to contest in bi-election. All the leaders unanimously come to conclusion to field the candidate from “Balija” Community. Reportedly, Congress leaders did survey on Tirupathy bi-election. As per the party survey Congress party would get 35K votes in this election. In 2014, general elections Congress nominee got 3K votes and fails to get even deposit. The survey results made the leaders in upbeat mood. Congress leaders are trying to contest in Tirupathy not for victory but for getting assurance the ticket for 2019 Assembly elections.
