Department of Prisons made an appeal to Collector of Guntur district for land allotment near the new capital city of Andhra Pradesh. Rajahmundry jail is the largest prison in the state after the division of the state. There is a space for 250 inmates in Guntur district jail. Those who sentenced more than two years imprisonment were shifted to Rajahmundry Central Jail. It’s mandatory to build new prison for the state. Charlapally Jail is constructed in area located across 120 acres in Hyderabad. Now Department of AP Prisons also tried to build new Prison around 100 acres. They planned to cater the needs of the state for next 100 years with new prison. AP Prison department wants to construct the Prison in agriculture lands that provides plenty of water. Guntur district Collector ordered RDO to search for the land. Like in Charlapally, in AP too has planned to construct prisons separately for Women, Juvenile and Open air in one compound. New premises will be constructed for most wanted criminals and Terrorists. They have intention that new prison will be nearer to Civil and High Courts.
