Sometime back news cameout that TDP chief Chandra Babu Naidu right after becoming CMChief Minister of Andhra Pradesh planned to start Anna Canteens after the name of NTR who was loveingly referred to as Anna across the state. TDP planned to start Anna canteens on the same lines of Amma canteens started by AIADMK chief Jayalalitha during her tenure as CM of Tamil Nadu.
However shockingly it is coming out that Chandra Babu Naidu shelved Anna Canteens after the officials put everything in place. This surprised many since Chandra Babu Naidu proudly announced the scheme last August to provide at affordable rates to daily wage workers and other financially weaker sections.
Chandra Babu also constituted cabinet sub committee with municipal administration minister P Narayana, civil supplies minister Paritala Suneetha and agriculture minister Pratipati Pullarao as members. They visited Tamil Nadu last September and a source says “The ministers were informed that in Chennai alone, about 1.5 lakh people visit the 230 canteens located in the corporation area every day . This covers almost 20 per cent of the total BPL families in the city,“
Source adds “The Anna Canteens will be a big hit among the poor. Therefore, Naidu has decided to implement the scheme in the run-up to the next elections,“ and it was decided that 35 canteens at various places will be opened. Visakhapatnam (15), Guntur (10), Tirupati (5) and Anantapur (5) wil be having the canteens and the cost of the project was estimated to be Rs 40crs and subsequently 25 crs per year.
However Chandra Babu Naidu shelved the project as he felt that if the scheme is implemented in the runup to general elections in 2019, he and his party TDP will sweep power in the state.
