The Telangana government has reportedly decided to fully take over the Nizam Deccan Sugars Limited (NDSL), which was a long pending demand. This comes amid reports that management had failed to make payments tothe farmers even after procurement of sugarcane from them.

Largest sugar factory in Asia

The TRS government is all set for taking over the factory which islocated in Nizamabad district after arriving at a conclusion that the private management no longer is interest in running the factory, considered as largest sugar factory in Asia. Located near Bodhan town, the NDSL was established in 1936 by Hyderabad Nizam on a massive areaof land.

Nizam Sugar Factory

It was once considered the pride of South India and was an emotive issue for the people. Popularly called Nizam Sugar Factory, it generated great profits for decades before actually turning sick. In 2002, Chandrababu Naidu government handed this factor to Delta Paper Company under a joint venture.

YSR recommended government

But a legislative committee which was appointed by Naidu's successor YSR had recommended government taking over the factory which wasn’t implemented by later Congress CM’s. A long pending demand has been fulfilled but there would be a real change only when arrears arecleared and the plant regains golden era, but any namesake takeovermay not suffice to realise the dream. It needs real political will.
