In what can be termed as a very ugly incident, the officials of Cherlapally jail found a mobile phone and 2 Sim cards with Satyam Ramalinga Raju who is currently serving a sentence of seven years jail term in Multicrore Satyam fraud. Raju got caught with these banned items in the routine checks of the jail authorities.

Raju himself brought the phone in to the jail

The authorities are now investigating if Raju himself brought the phone in to the jail or some one helped him get one there.. They are also verifying the call records of the two sim cards to find out if Raju was trying to tamper the evidences with the phone. In the past, there were several incidents where mobile phones are found with criminals in jails.

The mobiles were used to contact outsiders and some times to do settlements from within the jail. This is the first time a high profile criminal like Raju was found with a mobile phone. The court now will also consider this when hearing Raju's bail plea.

CBI Special court

The CBI Special court last month sentenced Raju and others, including his brother Rama Raju, to seven years rigorous imprisonment for criminal conspiracy and cheating, among other offences in the over Rs 7,000-crore scandal that came to light in 2009. It had also imposed a Rs 5.5-crore fine on Raju and his brother Rama Raju.
