The Editors Guild of India has reportedly criticized the ruling Telangana government alleging that it has been intimidating the journalists of 'Outlook' magazine through sheer abuse of power as well as gross overreaction to its publication of what was seen as an “insensitive'' piece.
The
Guild reportedly added that the continued harassment of 'Outlook' and
the journalists by Telangana government would be seen as an attempt
to not only intimidate the magazine but also the press in general
as well as muzzle free expression. This is over the controversial
caricature of a female IAS officer in CMO’s office.
Telangana government as well as the officials
N Ravi, Editors Guild president has announced in a statement that the Guild calls upon the Telangana government as well as the officials concerned to be showing restraint and desisting from this undemocratic course. Outlook journalists have complained at national forum that TS officials are harassing them.
The Guild stated that even after the magazine has expressed regret for publication of caricature with sexist overtones as part of the satirical 'Deep Throat' column under a title 'No boring babu', the reaction which is now being followed is wholly disproportionate to any offence caused.
