As per the division of Andhra Pradesh 2013 Act, Minister for Human Resources Smriti Irani laid foundation stone for Indian Institute of Technology, Tirupati on March this year. The new IIT campus buildings would spread over 567 acres in Meralapaka near Tirupati. It will start functioning in this academic year (2015-2016) from August 05th onwards in temporary campus. New IIT offiers B.Tech courses in four branches Civil, Computer Science, Mechanical and Electrical engineering with 30 seats in each branch. 

Professors of IIT Madras will act as mentors to IIT Tirupati. All 120 seats are filled in first year itself. 57 Telugu students joined in IIT Tirupati (40 from AP and 17 from Telangana). 63 students joined from Northern states in Tirupati IIT. It’s surprising that students who got rank below 7k prefers to join in IIT Tirupati. Eventhough they are eligible to join in other IITs, studens prefer to join in Tirupati. 

There are 12 Professors from IIT Madras will teach lessons to the students join in IIT Tirupati. There is no local state quota to join Central Institutes like NIT and IIT. Admissions will take place as per Union Government rules. As per the HRD, there are 3200 seats were left unfilled in NIT and IIT across the various Institutes in the country. It will be good start for newly IIT Tirupati in filling all assigned seats in first year it’self.
